WARMINGTON Family History
This name is of English locational origin for either of the places thus called in Warwickshire or Northamptonshire. The former, recorded as Warmintone in the Domesday Book of 1086, derives its name from the Olde English pre 7th Century "Woermundingtun" translating as "the settlement (tun) of Woermund's people (ing)". The latter, recorded in Olde English as Wyrmington, means "the settlement associated with Wyrm", a byname meaning "Serpent" or "Dragon". The surname from this source is first recorded in the latter half of the 10th Century, (see below).Select Audience
